Welcome to DNAdvocates

Can genetic testing help everyone?

Most likely, but it depends on how much genetic information (test results) that you have. 23 and me and Ancestry.com only provide a small fraction of your total DNA sequence. It is possible for around $1000 to have your entire genome sequenced (we do not provide this service).

What types of genetics tests are available?

Almost anything that you can imagine. Genetic testing has been done for decades on expectant mothers and newborns. Now, you can have your dog tested for over 100 degenerative disorders or your entire metabolome analyzed to determine if you are taking the best medicines to treat whatever your conditions.

How do I get started with DNAdvocates?

Usually clients start with 23 and me or Ancestry.com data and want to learn more. These services only provide information on ~1% of the data that they actually collect. We help explain the other 99%. However, some clients come with a condition or a family history of a disorder. Some come with both.

What Our Clients Say

Cody D

I’ve always been curious whether I had a robust set of genes or not, so I reached out for help from DNAdvocates. Robert Walters was amiable throughout the whole process and was very informative, especially his more detailed report. About the report - it turns out I have quite a few diseases hidden in my genes that I should be wary of. I can adjust my lifestyle to one that can minimize the chances of me getting these diseases. Also, whenever I go to the doctor, I have my report to give them so we can look things over. I can’t thank DNAdvocates enough for bringing to light the mysteries of my genes.

Thanks to Robert Walters at DNAdvocates, I have been able to rest more comfortably at night. My mom passed away from metastatic breast cancer, and I have always been concerned that I might carry some genes for breast cancer. Well, it turns out I do but not the 'big ones.' I have been able to get yearly mammograms and am now alternating that with yearly MRI's as well. DNAdvocates also found some pretty interesting things about my DNA - for example, medications that I metabolize quicker or slower. Knowing more about my genetic profile can help me take steps to change my lifestyle to help minimize some possible disease states. I am so thankful that Robert Walters helped walk me through all of this.

I chose DNA Advocates to identify through DNA my health care risks and seek recommendations to improve my overall healthcare outlook. I found them very responsive, thorough, concerned, and knowledgeable. Their detailed analysis has been effective in improving my healthcare focus and identifying possible issues. Follow-up questions have been answered timely and effectively.

I am always told I have good genes. Whenever I go to the dentist, they say I must have good genes because of my teeth. Whenever I go to the barbershop, they say I must have good genes because of my hair. In fact, I am 11x more likely to be bald hahaha. I might not need to even go to the barbershop much longer. In all seriousness, I can adjust my lifestyle to one that can minimize the chances of me getting these diseases. Also, whenever I go to the doctor, I have my report to give them so we can look things over. He then can do specific tests and ask me questions to make sure I’m not showing any symptoms of these diseases. I can’t thank DNAdvocates enough for bringing to light the mysteries of my genes.

I have enjoyed researching my family and heritage through ancestry.com for a few years. When I found out that Dr. Robert Walters could take this information and give me insight into health issues, I was anxious to find further information. He was very patient in explaining the process and simply walked me through it! (I am 76, so some terms are not familiar to me.) I am generally in good health, but with several aches and pains of undiagnosed origin. His report was much more thorough and detailed than I had expected. He went over each item with me and explained it all, answering many questions. I took the report to my doctor, who was impressed. With her help, and a specialist, I received a diagnosis of spinal stenosis. Delayed by the Coronavirus, we are working toward finding relief for my back pain! Robert also reviewed my medicines with me, so that I could discuss any problems with my doctor. I am glad I consulted Dr. Walters and will continue to use this report in further medical exams and tests, as well as with new medications.
